Biography

Stanislav Kurajica was born in 1965 in Dubrovnik. He finished primary and secondary school in Dubrovnik, graduated in 1991, received master's degree in 1994, and PhD in 1998 at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, University of Zagreb. Since 1991, he has been employed at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology. In 2013, he was elected to the position of professor with tennure in the field of technical sciences, field of chemical engineering, process analysis and synthesis, and field of other basic technical sciences, materials.

He was the dean and vice-dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology for two terms, a member of the Senate of the University of Zagreb, a member of the Council of the Technical Area of ​​the University of Zagreb for two terms, a member of the Financial Committee and the Committee for Spatial and Investment Planning of the University of Zagreb, head of the Department of Inorganic Chemical Technology and Non-metals of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology in several mandates and coordinator of the Materials Science and Engineering study.

S. Kurajica teaches at the doctoral study Engineering Chemistry, graduate and undergraduate studies Matherials Science and Engineering, Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology of the University of Zagreb, and at the undergraduate study Conservation and Restoration at the University of Dubrovnik. He was the supervisor of seven doctoral theses and more than 50 undergraduate and master theses. He is the co-author of the textbook "Introduction to Nanotechnology" and the author of the textbook "X-ray powder diffraction".

The scientific activity of S. Kurajica is focused on the field of materials science and engineering, especially nanomaterials, technical ceramics and catalysts, and reactions in the solid state, especially their kinetics. He deals with advanced synthesis methods, especially sol-gel and hydrothermal synthesis, X-ray diffraction analysis, thermo-analytical methods, etc. He is currently a collaborator on an international scientific project. He was co-leader of one international scientific project, three domestic scientific projects and one technological project, collaborator on four international and seven domestic projects. He received ten financial grants for scientific work from the University of Zagreb. He has published more than 140 scientific papers, 100 of them in journals cited in tertiary publications, 5 in domestic journals and 37 in conference proceedings. According to SCOPUS base he was cited 1443 times and according to WoS base he was cited 1316 times and has an h-index of 17 according to both bases. He participated in the work of more than 100 international and domestic scientific meetings and held seven invited and a large number of plenary and sectional lectures. He was a member of the scientific or scientific-organizational committee of 12 international and domestic scientific meetings, and chaired one of them.

S. Kurajica is the author of professional papers, professional studies for the industry and the public sector, and encyclopedia entries. He is the author of articles in magazines, newspapers, monographs and interviews, and the editor of publications that popularize the profession. He is a reviewer for numerous international and domestic scientific journals, he has also reviewed university textbooks and manuals, books of papers and books of abstracts from scientific meetings, scientific and technological projects, university projects and university study programs. He is the awarded with several medals at international innovation exhibitions and co-author of a patent application.

S. Kurajica is the founder and first president of the Croatian Society for Ceramic Materials, a member of the Croatian Academy of Technical Sciences, the American Nano Society, the Croatian Society of Chemical Engineers and the Croatian Society for Materials and Tribology. He was awarded with the State Prize for Science in the field of technical sciences (2021), the "Fran Bošnjaković" award of the University of Zagreb (2014) and the "Franjo Hanaman" award of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology of the University of Zagreb (2016). He is a veteran of the Homeland War. He is married and has two daughters.
