Title: Associate professor
Zvonimir Katančić was born on December 10, 1980 in Zagreb, where he completed primary and secondary school. He graduated from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology at the University of Zagreb in 2005. In January 2006 he was employed at the Ekonerg Institute in Zagreb and from October 2006 to May 2007 he worked as an expert at the Environmental Protection Agency. Since June 2007 he has been working as a research assistant at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology at the University of Zagreb in the Department of Polymer Engineering and Organic Chemical Technology. He defended his dissertation entitled "The influence of modified nanofillers on the thermal stability of polystyrene nanocomposites" in 2013 under the supervision of Prof. Zlata Hrnjak-Murgić, PhD.
He was appointed Assistant Professor in March 2019 and Associate Professor in April 2024.
His scientific activity focuses on the research of polymer materials and polymer (nano)composites,the development of functional properties of polymer materials and nanocomposites, such as the reduction of flammability, photocatalytic activity, improvement of barrier properties of food packaging; he researches the recycling of polymer materials as well as electrically conductive polymers and their application in wearable electronics.
On two occasions he spent a total of five months at the University of Auckland, Faculty of Science in Auckland, New Zealand. As an author and co-author, he has published one scientific book, one book chapter, 43 scientific papers in journals cited in tertiary publications, one paper in journals cited in secondary publications, and 12 papers in proceedings of international scientific conferences. He has presented 71 papers at international and national conferences. He was the leader of one installation research project and a collaborator in two research projects of the Croatian Science Foundation. He was a collaborator in two projects financed by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sport and in one project financed by the European Structural and Investment Fund.
