Description:

First week: Introduction to the various fields of Science, the branches and what each area covers, the terminology.
Second week: Prefixes and their meaning. Word formation using prefixes. Synonyms of key words in science.
Third week: Chemistry and its various branches. Plurals in English. Fundamental concepts of chemistry.
Fourth week: Chemical elements and compounds. Singular and Plural forms.
Fifth week: Laboratory instruments and their application. Countable and uncountable nouns.
Sixth week: Filtration and distillation. Alchemy and alchemists, their goals and the advancement of medicine.
Seventh week: Goals of modern chemistry. Alchemist symbols. Symbols used for the elements in modern chemistry.
Eighth week: The periodic table. How it is divided into groups and periods. The names of each group and period.
Ninth week: Chemical elements and their translation to Croatian. British versus American English. Differences in spelling.
Tenth week: States of matter. Revision of tenses. The passive voice.
Eleventh week: The fourth state of matter, plasma.
Twelfth week: Oral presentations of students and peer review.
Thirteenth week: Oral presentations of students and peer review.
Fourteenth week: Revision test of vocabulary and grammar covered in English language 3.
Fifteenth week: the midterm test.

Learning outcomes:
|
- The student will be able to make a presentation and present it orally online in English using expert terminology.
- The student will demonstrate critical thinking in a filmed video clip where a discussion about a lab experiment that went wrong is analyzed and a solution is thought of to make the experiment become a successful one.
- The student will be able to recognize various chemical engineering issues by following current events and will be able to suggest solutions to such issues orally
- The student will be capable of teamwork and complete various assignments by interacting with colleagues.
