Description:
1. History of energy use in World and Croatia. Access to energy as prerequisite to society development.
2. Energy classification: primary, transformed, useful.
3. Classification of energy consumption. World and Croatian statistics. Energy consumption vs. population and BDP. Energy intensity.
4. Energy consumption scenarios. 3A scenario, Accessibility, Availability, Acceptability.
5. Fossil fuels. Oil conventional and nonconventional. Origin, reserves, transport, composition, refining and use.
6. Natural gas. Conventional and nonconventional. Origin, reserves, composition, refining and use. Pipeline and LNG transport.
7. Coal. Origin, reserves, transport, composition, use. Environmental impact and its future. BAT.
8. Combustion. Stoichiometric relations. Air excess and NOx production. Alternative fuels.
9. Combined heat and power production. Operating time and economy of facility.
10. Hydro power plants. Installed capacities in World and Croatia. Basic types of hydro turbines. Hydro power plants review in Croatia. Small hydro.
11. Strategic energy infrastructure in Croatia. Oil pipeline (Janaf), gas transmission pipeline (Plinacro) and electricity transmission system (HOPS).
12. Energy transformations and environment. Green house effect. Definition, antropogenic impact. Climatic policies and low carbon society.
13. RES. definition and classification, basic physical principles of PV and WP. Biomass. Operational characteristics of RES and their impact to grid. Cost of electricity from RES and their financing. major projects in Croatia.
14. Energy regulation frame. Regulated and non regulated activities. Structure of gas, electricity and heat cost.
15. Energy consumption in buildings. Structure of consumption. Review of buildings in Croatia in respect of their energy characteristics.
Learning outcomes:
  1. Based on historical data evaluate trend of energy consumption.
  2. Know basic energy transformations.
  3. Create energy supply of industry consumers by transformed energy.
  4. Evaluate environmental impact of energy transformations.
  5. Suggest energy savings in different areas of consumption.
  6. Evaluate role of renewable energy sources in energy mix and their implementation in industry.
