Description:
Process equipment in ecoengineering

Course objective
To provide students with a better understanding of the wide range of process equipment used in ecoengineering.

Course implementation program
1. Technical documentation; basic rules and norms in the presentation and description of process equipment elements, graphic symbols of equipment elements in process schemes.
2. Basics of mechanical behavior of process equipment parts. Equipment construction materials, types of properties and testing, selection and proper application.
3. Laboratory exercises: strength, hardness, toughness.
4. Review and classification of elements (parts) of process equipment in environmental protection, combined with field teaching. Specifications and equipment selection. Standardization and typification of equipment, optimization. Equipment maintenance.
5. Propulsion machines, transmissions and drives.
6. Pumps, compressors, blowers and fans.
7. Pipes, fittings and pipeline equipment.
8. Heat exchange tanks and equipment. Safety of equipment, plant and environment.
9. Review and classification of process equipment systems in environmental protection. Machines and devices in solid waste treatment (conveyor belts, screw conveyors; bulldozers, cranes, crushers).
10. Air purification equipment (filters, cyclones, scrubbers).
11. Water treatment equipment (tanks, precipitators, filter presses, oil separators, mixers).
12. Stoves, fireplaces, incinerators.
13. Equipment for mechanical and separation processes.
14. Measuring equipment and instruments in environmental protection. Display and analysis of measurement results.
15. Field teaching.

Prerequisites for enrolling in the course
Passed subjects: all subjects of the 1st academic year

Developing general and specific student competencies
Through an integrated approach to process equipment used in eco-engineering, students acquire greater competencies for planning, managing and maintaining equipment and plants.

Student obligations in teaching and ways of their execution
Mandatory attendance at classes - lectures, seminars and exercises and fieldwork; preparation and presentation of seminar papers.

Teaching methods
Lectures, presentations, visits to characteristic plants.

Method of testing knowledge and taking exams
2 colloquia or written exam + oral exam

Course learning outcomes
1. comment on the basic rules, symbols and norms in the presentation, description and specifications of simpler elements of process equipment
2. connect the basic principles of engineering mechanics with simple parts and systems of process equipment
3. connect the basic properties and testing procedures of engineering materials
4. connect the purpose, construction solutions, properties and application of basic elements and assemblies of process equipment and evaluate their most significant characteristics
5. propose appropriate elements and assemblies of equipment from the point of view of efficiency and economy

Learning outcomes at the program level to which the course contributes
1. use basic laboratory skills and work rules in the physical, chemical and microbiological laboratories
2. collect information from different sources that are required to monitor the state of environment, for environmental protection and management of water, air, soil, waste and energy
3. define simple problems in the field of environmental engineering in order to solve them
4. explain the procedures in the design of the environmental protection system
