Description:
Course objective:
Basic knowledge in electrical engineering. Basics of electrical and process mesurement. Measurement error and measurement uncertainty analysis. Introduction to the modern digital systems.
Course implementation program:
1. Basic concepts of DC circuit. Elements of a circuit. Electrical current, voltage, resistance, frequency, capacity, power and energy.
2. Basic concepts of electromagnetism and AC. Three-phase systems.
3. Power systems. Basic Electrical Safety.
4. Analog Signals. Signal types: continuous and discontinuous, analog and digital signals.
5. Digital electrical systems and signal processing. Digital circuits and digital logic. Sampling and filtering. Digital signal analysis. Analog-to-digital (A / D) and digital-to-analogue (D / A) conversion.
6. Basics of electrical instruments and measurements. Transducers. Calibration and maintenance of transducers. Examples of measuring instruments in the process industry.
7. Measurement error and measurement uncertainty Input, output characteristics of transducers. Measurement errors: Random and systematic error; absolute and relative error. Measurement uncertainty analysis. Detection of errors and problems in the measuring system.
8. Actuators: motors, transformers, solenoids, valves.
9. Modern trends in the process industry and chemical engineering. Cybernetic systems. Robotics. Micro and nano level systems. Industry 4.0. The role of artificial intelligence. Demonstration of new technologies.
General competencies:
Basic knowledge of electrical engineering and electronics required by chemical engineers and training for monitoring courses in senior years (Electrochemistry, Measurements and process control, Process and instrumental analysis, etc.). Introduction to methodologies of electrical and electronic systems.
Special competencies:
Calculation of relevant electrical values and training for measurement and process control.
Obligations of students in teaching and ways of their execution:
Students are required to attend lectures, Students are required to attend laboratory exercises Students are required to submit reports through the e-learning system

Lectures (ex cathedra), laboratory exercises, Consultations.

Course learning outcomes:
1. analyze direct and alternating current circuits
2. identify and select the appropriate application of simpler analog and digital electronic circuits in solving various problems in chemical engineering
3. distinguish techniques of protection against electric shock
4. use basic electronic instrumentation
5. distinguish the basic characteristics of actuators in process industry;
6. describe the development of modern systems and trends in the process industry
