Biography

The field of scientific activity is in chemical engineering, the branch of environmental protection in chemical engineering. She has published over 70 scientific papers. At the beginning of her scientific research work, she was engaged in research related to the examination of the presence of arsenic in groundwater and the biological removal of humic substances from natural waters and the composting of agro-industrial waste. Further research is developed according to the application of the acquired experience in the field of activated sludge formation in a membrane bioreactor, where it combines kinetic and microscopic analyzes in order to determine the effectiveness of the implementation of biological processes based on the controlled growth and maintenance of activated sludge flakes. He further researches biodegradation of agro-industrial and municipal waste, bioremediation of leachate from tobacco waste and biowaste, as well as waste water from olive production and disposal of waste streams with a mathematical description of the aforementioned processes. Newer research is focused on the isolation of specific environmental microbial cultures for bioremediation of real industrial waste streams with an emphasis on bioaugmentation and the processes of biosorption and biodegradation of xenobiotics with the application of mathematical models. She teaches several courses at undergraduate and graduate studies, as well as postgraduate doctoral studies and postgraduate specialist studies. She is the author of several professional works. She participates in numerous activities to popularize the profession. As a leader and collaborator, she participated in the creation of several professional projects for the needs of the economy, among which the knowledge and technology transfer projects stand out.
