Lectures 20
* Load is given in academic hour (1 academic hour = 45 minutes)
Description:
Solidli-quid equilibrium: solubility and phase diagrams. The width of metastable zone,
importance and methods of determination.
Crystallization kinetics; methods of estimation nucleation and growth rate kinetics.
Process parameters effect on the granulometric characteristics of crystals.
Properties of crystals: structure, shape (habit), crystal size and crystal size distribution.
The effect of the crystal granulometric characteristics on folloved manufacturing processes.
Performing of the crystallization processes from: solutions, melt and vapor and crystallization
with additives.
Crystallization processes classifications: according to the attainment of the supersaturation
level (by cooling crystallization, evaporative crystallization; vacuum crystallization);
according to the mode of operation (batch and continues crystallization).
Crystallizers: operating mode and selection. Modeling equipment requests.
Learning outcomes:
  1. Collect and critically evaluate information from scientific sources to organize or improve the process necessary to obtain products of certain properties.
  2. Develop and optimize the method required for the successful implementation of the crystallization process.
  3. Select and implement process instruments for inline monitoring of process conditions during the crystallization process.
  4. Propose methods for crystal characterization and valorize the obtained results.
