Project Overview

Studies dealing with removal of microplastics (MP) from water are so far relatively rare and scarce. Therefore, AdWaTMiR is focused on the removal of these contaminants. The originality of the concept proposed by AdWaTMiR is contained in a new way of combining existed technologies for MP removal, followed by an innovative design of related prototype of laboratory reactor. These approaches will combine the existing water treatment technologies in new and innovative way. Previously published researches indicate that, in most cases, combination of different water treatment technologies was initially considered as an easy implementation and quite logical step-up in removal efficiency, but practical implementation was everything but not simple. Yet, we believe that the proposed approach will be successfully developed and tested, and that it will be effective tool for enhancement of water purification systems. An innovative reactor prototype will ensure effective removal of MP from freshwater and wastewater. All analysis will be initially carried out on synthetic water suspension of MP and thereafter on real water-samples. The main goal of AdWaTMiR is to explore and develop new effective approaches for removal of MP from contaminated waters. The most effective approach will be selected applying multiple criteria decision making methodology with two criteria included: best removal efficiency and highest cost effectivity.
