We are delighted to announce that on 29 September, Magdalena Vrđuka successfully defended her Master’s thesis "Wearable Optical Sensors for Monitoring the Concentration of Selected Biomarkers Based on Biocompatible (Nano)materials", at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology (FKIT)!

Her thesis, carried out within the WearSense project funded by Croatian Science Foundation under the project WearSense HRZZ IP-2022-10-2595, under the supervision of Prof. Ivana Steinberg with research support from Iva Karneluti, focused on a colorimetric pH sensor built on a cellulose face mask with a covalently immobilised azo dye. The sensor’s colour response was read out by reflectance spectroscopy and smartphone image analysis. It showed a reproducible, reversible response and stable performance during storage.
Congratulations, Magdalena, and best wishes for your future career!
