We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join the WearSense project team - Wearable Optical Chemical Sensors for Multimodal Determination of Biomarkers - at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology.

This position is offered on a fixed-term contract of 20 months duration, closing date for receipt of applications is July 4th 2024.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, fabricate, and characterise optical chemical sensing (nano)materials
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary team to integrate chemical sensors onto wearable devices
  • Perform analytical testing, data analysis and reporting
  • Participate in the planning and performance of detailed laboratory work
  • Undertake short-term research visits to international collaborators’ laboratories
  • Co-author research findings in scientific journals and present at international conferences

 

Requirements:

  • PhD qualification in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science/engineering biochemistry, or related scientific or engineering field
  • Experienced in practical laboratory work 
  • Hands-on design and synthesis/fabrication of functional (nano)materials
  • Familiarity with UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopic and functional characterisation methods
  • Proven record of academic writing and publication in scientific journals
  • Well-organised and independent worker who functions well in a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication skills in English

 

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of analytical chemistry techniques and methodologies
  • Prior experience in design and characterisation of (bio)chemical sensors
  • Chemical functionalisation of (nano)biomaterials
