Biography

Stanislav Kurajica was born in 1965 in Dubrovnik. He accomplished his primary and secondary education in Dubrovnik and in 1991 he graduated from Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, University of Zagreb. He received his master of science degree in 1994 while he defended his doctoral thesis "Crystallization of Phases in Systems Obtained by the Sol-gel Process" in 1998.

Since 1991, he has been employed at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, first as assistant, then assistant professor, associate professor and full professor. In 2013 he was elected for tenure professor in area of technical sciences, field of chemical engineering, branch of process analysis and synthesis and the field of other basic technical sciences, branch of materials. In 2022 he was elected for a regular member of the Academy of Technical Sciences of Croatia, Department of Chemical Engineering. In 2024 he was elected for a regular member of Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Department of technical sciences.

He was dean and vice-dean of the Faculty of Chemistry of engineering and technology, member of the Senate of the University of Zagreb, member of the Technical Area Council of the University of Zagreb, head of the Department for Inorganic Chemical Technology and Non-metals, all in several mandates, and coordinator of study of Materials Chemistry and Engineering. He also participated in the founding of studies of Military Engineering at Dr. Franjo Tuđman Military Academy and Crisis Management at University of Zagreb.

He teaches courses in the field of materials science and engineering and nanotechnology at the doctoral study of Engineering Chemistry, graduate and undergraduate studies of Chemistry and Engineering of Materials, Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology of the University of Zagreb and at the undergraduate study Conservation and Restoration at the University of Dubrovnik. He also teaches at joint study Chemical and Environmental Technology of the Faculty of Chemical and Environmental Technology of the University of Zagreb and Faculty of Chemical Technology of the University of Split, as well as at joint study of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, University of Zagreb and Institut textile et chemique de Lyon. He was the mentor of seven doctoral dissertations and 55 final and graduate theses. He is the co-author of the textbook Introduction to Nanotechnology and author of textbooks Powder X-ray Diffraction and Silicates: structures, properties, chemistry, technology.

The scientific activity of S. Kurajica is focused on the field of materials science and engineering, especially nanomaterials, technical ceramics, catalysts and reactions in the solid state, in particular their kinetics. It deals with advanced methods of synthesis and the structure and properties of the material. He led six scientific projects, and he participated as an associate in 12 international and domestic projects. He is the representative of Croatia in the Management Board of COST EU-MACE actions. He published more than 140 scientific papers, according to SCOPUS base he was cited 1666 times and has an h-index of 18, and according to WoS base he has been cited 1516 times and has an h-index 19. He participated in the work of more than 100 international scientific meetings and held a large number of invited, plenary and sectional lectures. He was a member scientific or scientific-organizational committee of 12 international and domestic scientific meetings, and he presided over one of them. He was also guest editor of one issue of international and one issue of domestic journals.

He is the author of professional papers, professional studies for industry, encyclopedic entries, articles in magazines, newspapers, monographs and interviews and editor of the publications dedicated to popularization of profession. He organized round tables and expert meetings. He is a reviewer for numerous international and domestic scientific journals, he also reviewed university textbooks and manuals, books of papers and book of abstracts from scientific meetings, scientific and technological projects, university projects and university study programs. He is awarded with several medals at international exhibitions of innovations and co-author of the patent application.

He is the founder and first president of the Croatian Ceramic Society, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the European Ceramic Society. He was also a member of Board of Directors of the Croatian Cluster for competitiveness of the chemical, plastic and rubber industry. He is a member of the European Ceramic Society, American Nano Society, the Croatian Society of chemical engineers and the Croatian Society for materials and tribology.

He was awarded with the National Award for Science for the field of technical sciences, with the award "Fran Bošnjaković" of the University of Zagreb and award "Franjo Hanaman" of the Faculty of Chemistry of Engineering and Technology, University of Zagreb. He is a war veteran, married and has two daughters.
