Biography

Katarina Sokač, MSc, was born on August 15th, 1996 in Koprivnica, Croatia. She graduated from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, University of Zagreb, with a BSc in Chemical Engineering in 2019, and received an MSc in Chemical Engineering in 2021 at the same institution.

From February to July 2021, she worked on the project Green and Conventional Synthetic Approaches for the Construction of Flavonoid Derivatives at the Laboratoire de Chimie de Coordination, Toulouse, France. As a member of the research team New Antimalarial Molecules and Pharmacological Approaches within the Erasmus+ internship, she worked on the synthesis and biological evaluation of new molecules with potential antimalarial activity. From October 2021 to May 2022, she was employed as a researcher-analyst at Teva Pharmaceutical Industries in the Analytical Methods Improvement Laboratory (Global Analytical Services Zagreb), where she worked on the development and validation of analytical methods for HPLC/UPLC.

From May 2022, she is employed as an Assistant in the Department of Mechanical and Thermal Process Engineering at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology.

Her teaching activities primarily include transport phenomena and mechanical and thermal separation processes. She actively participates in the performance of laboratory exercises of all courses of the Department: Transport Phenomena, Transport Phenomena and Separation Processes, Fluid Mechanics, Mechanical Process Engineering, Thermal Process Engineering, Unit Operations in Environmental Engineering, and Unit Operations. In addition, she is involved in the teaching of mentor-type exercises (Chemical Engineering Laboratory and Material Engineering Laboratory) and the preparation of final and diploma theses.

Her research activities include the activation of drugs in the second group of the Biopharmaceutical Classification System by applying the principles of green chemistry and the methodology of chemical engineering to enhance the release rate of the drugs from the prepared dosage forms. Scientific research is particularly focused on the application of various techniques for improving drug solubility and the preparation of final dosage forms with better application properties, with the aim of improved absorption, bioavailability, and ultimately better pharmacological action and efficiency in treatment. She has authored six scientific papers in academic journals.
