Dr. sc. Katarina Mužina was born on March 31, 1993. in Zagreb. She graduated from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology of the University of Zagreb with great honours in 2016 and received the "Vjera Marjanović Krajovan" award for the best student of the Chemical Engineering graduate course. In the same year, she received the Rector's award for individual scientific work. In 2017, she was employed at the aforementioned faculty as an assistant at the Department of Inorganic Chemical Technology and Non-Metals and enrolled in the doctoral course Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry. She did her doctoral thesis entitled Hydrothermal synthesis and characterization of copper-doped cerium(IV) oxide under the supervision of prof. dr. sc. Stanislav Kurajica and defended it on July 21, 2022 with the grade Summa cum laude. Since 2023, she has been employed at the same department as a senior assistant. She is a member of the Croatian and European Ceramic Society and the Croatian Society of Chemical Engineers, she was a collaborator on 2 scientific and 3 professional projects, she is an assistant representative in the Faculty Council and participates in the work of numerous committees at the Faculty. She is the recipient of a scholarship from the University of Vienna, a scholarship from the European Chemical Industry Council, L'Oreal-UNESCO scholarship "For Women in Science" and young scientist award "Vera Johanides" awarded by the Croatian Academy of Engineering. She is the author and co-author of numerous scientific papers and abstracts from scientific and professional conferences (https://www.croris.hr/crosbi/searchByContext/2/33650). As a senior assistant, she participates in the teaching of 13 courses and as a direct supervisor and mentor of Master's and Bachelor's theses. She actively participates in the popularization of science through regular participation in the Science Festival, Muzza Science Week, FKIT Open Days, as well as by organizing scientific workshops in primary and secondary schools.
