“Chemical and Environmental Technology” is a graduate study programme, lasting 2 years (4 semesters), during which students are required to acquire a minimum of 120 ECTS points to complete the programme. All courses are held in English and classes consist of 20 students per class and seminar, and up to 10 students in laboratory classes.
Postgraduate doctoral study programmes of the providing (FCET) and partner (FCT) institution: “Chemical engineering and applied chemistry” (FCET) and “Chemical Engineering in Materials Development and Environmental Protection” (FCT) which have a tradition of accepting foreign students during the last 5 years of the doctoral programme (at least 1-2 per generation). There is also the possibility of entering doctoral programmes in the aforementioned fields (Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Chemistry) in the EU, surrounding countries and across the world: United Kingdom, Switzerland, USA, Canada, Australia, etc.
There are no graduate level programmes in English, in Croatia, for educating experts for work in chemical and related industries, with knowledge in the field of environmental protection, development of new processes and products and their applications in innovative technologies for water and air purification, waste management, obtaining clean renewable energy, that is based on principles of sustainability, circular economy, and current climate challenges. Therefore, the establishment of a new graduate level programme in English is of key value for educating experts in this field, which covers multiple fundamental thematic areas in the Croatian Smart Specialization Strategy.
Specific knowledge acquired during attendance of the graduate programme “Chemical and Environmental Technology” will contribute to the struggle against climate change, create new business opportunities and better employability while strengthening social inclusivity. It will also develop awareness of importance of environmental protection, sustainable development, as well as new and clean technologies.
The study programme “Chemical and Environmental Technology” is comparable with a number of similar study programmes in the EU that are being taught in English:
However, the programme “Chemical and Environmental Technology” has certain particularities, which are based on specific scientific and research competences of its professors.
Graduate study programme “Chemical and Environmental Technology” in English will enable students to acquire knowledge, skills and competences following the latest global trends. Lecturers include internationally recognised experts from Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Zagreb (FCET) and Faculty of Chemistry and Technology, Split (FCT) as well as several foreign lecturers (English native speakers) with specific expertise related to courses proposed within this study programme. They possess a rich international scientific, research and lecturing experience in the field of this study programme: development of new technologies in the chemical and related industries as well as environmental protection and all it envelops.
Horizontal mobility within Croatia is possible for all students on the same educational level of related study programmes, the same being true for international mobility both within the EU, and via signed partnerships and bilateral agreements within the Universities of Zagreb, and Split. The new study programme in English will also enable and increase of the incoming international mobility of students and lecturers.
Vertical mobility is possible with some prerequisites, namely, skills necessary to participate in lectures in the new study programme in English. Further vertical mobility for students is possible through postgraduate study programmes offered by the providing institution and its partner, as well as around the world, due to acquired competences in English.
Partners outside the higher education system are the leading business entities in the field of new study programme which have highlighted the need for experts educated in English, with specific knowledge and skills following the latest global trends, and capable of working in an international community. These are long-term collaborators for professional and scientific cooperation, as well as educational activities of students from the providing (FCET) and partner (FCT) institution, through the internship programmes: Ruđer Bošković Institute, Croatian Institute of Public Health, Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health, Pliva, Xellia, INA, CEMEX, Holcim, Končar, Mariščina County Main Recycling Plant (Ekoplus, LLC), County Recycling Plant Kaštijun (Kaštijun, LLC), Saponia, Tehnix, Podravka, Belupo, Pharmal, JGL.
