Polymer composite materials
OUTLINE OF COURSE/MODULE CONTENT
Composites in materials selection. Matrices, fillers/reinforcements. Interface and interphase in composites. Characterization of interface. Modification of interface. Thermoset matrices of composites. Physico-chemical characteristics of curing process. Kinetics and chemorheology of curing. TTT-diagrams. Processing of polymer composites. Polymer nanocomposites. Nano-reinforcements: layered silicates. Organic-inorganic hybrids: synthesis, sol-gel process.
DESCRIPTION OF INSTRUCTION METHODS
Lectures and/or consultations.
DESCRIPTION OF COURSE/MODULE REQUIREMENTS
Written examination.
LEARNING OUTCOMES AT THE COURSE LEVEL
1. To validate polymer composites in the selection of materials.
2. To envision the corresponding modification of the boundary surface (matrix/filler, reinforcement) to obtain the desired material properties.
3. To validate kinetic and chemorheological models for the curing processes of thermoset systems.
4. To comment TTT diagrams for the selection of optimal conditions of processing of thermoset systems.
5. To establish the advantages and disadvantages of different methods of preparation of (nano) composites and organic-inorganic hybrids.
LEARNING OUTCOMES AT THE STUDY PROGRAMME LEVEL
1. To systematise knowledge, skills and competences for the respective field and academic area of the programme of study
2. To evaluate the skills and methods for experimental and theoretical research relating to the respective field and academic area of the programme of study
