The program of the course
1. Vulcanization and vulcanization systems
2. Rubber and synthetic rubbers, classification
3. Natural caoutchouc
4. Polybutadiene i polyisoprene caoutchouc
5. Styrene - butadiene caoutchouc
6. Ethylene-propylene and ethylene-propylene-diene caoutchouc
7. Silicone caoutchouc
8. Polychloroprene caoutchouc
9. Chlorbutyl caoutchouc
10. Fluorinated caoutchouc
11. Nitrile caoutchouc
12. Polisulfide caoutchouc
13. The shaping of the products
14. The processing of caoutchouc and production of rubber
15. Degradation and regeneration of rubber
Seminar:
The properties and the application of the different rubber types: the examples, the presentation or the written seminar work on a defined topic.

Prerequisites for enrolling in the course: Organic chemistry I and II, Physical chemistry I and II, Transfer of matter and energy, Unit operation systems, Reaction engineering and catalysis, Characterization of the materials, Polymers and polymerization processes.

Prerequisites for attending the course:

Development of general and specific student competencies: Students meet different types of caoutchoucs and rubber. Students can predict the application of different rubber types in everyday life knowing their properties.
Student obligations in teaching and their performance:
1. Attending the 75% of the lectures
2. Seminar work

Teaching methods:
1. Power point presentations
2. Students get teaching materials on the web page of the course
Type of examination of knowledge and examination:
Written exam. Two partial exams, each partial exam after specific lectures. Students who do not attend partial exams and do not gain enough points on them, must attend the written exam in exam terms.
Method of monitoring the quality and performance of courses: students survey

Course learning outcomes:
1. to differ rubber types depending on their structure
2. to recommend the processing of the elastomeric product
3. to evaluate the properties of the specific rubber types depending on their structure
4. to explain the thermal stability of the rubber types
5. to recommend the use of the application of the different rubber types
6. to plan the procedure of the regeneration of the waste rubber

Program level learning outcomes:
1. integrate scientific principles of materials science and engineering: structure, properties, processing and application of materials
2. relate expert knowledge in materials science and engineering with awareness of its societal, economic and environmental impacts
3. identify problems in area of materials science and engineering
4. apply scientific methods to solve problems in area of materials science and engineering
5. analyse information from various sources
6. develop processes of materials processing and quality assessment
